Launched in 2012 Shared Assets is a not-for-profit company, with the aim of developing and supporting the development of new models of managing land that is sustainable and productive, create livelihoods, enhance the environment, and involve local people in making decisions about the places they care about.
Shared Assets provides practical advice, support and training to landowners and communities who want to manage the land as a sustainable and productive asset.
CAN Invest accepted Shared Assets to join their CAN³ accelerator programme in August 2017, to help the organisation increase their income and financial sustainability, whilst also developing a deeper understanding of their social impact.
CAN Invest helped Shared Assets to develop a range of tools to support their strategic growth like template pitch documents and a business opportunity framework to help them prioritise business development across their different programmes considering factors as market size, demand, social impact, profitability etc.
They then worked with CAN to develop their impact measurement system, starting with a Theory of Change to map their activities and outcomes.
The Theory of Change enabled the organisation to clarify the outcomes they wanted to achieve, explain this to stakeholders, and to develop a system to systematically collect impact data and understand the effects they are having on the organisations they support.
