Several months on and we thought it was the perfect time to catch up with them to see how this funding has supported and helped accelerate growth for the organisation.
The London Underground was seen as a perfect place for Change Please to expand in to, with it being a 24-hour system it provided a real affinity with those who are homeless.
In November 2018 Change Please opened the first coffee shop on the Underground network at Clapham Common tube station and it is proving to be a successful site.
In keeping with the Change Please mission Marco, who was previously homeless was trained alongside existing baristas ready for the opening and is now based at this location. Further recruitment and training is already underway for further employees to be based at this location.
The opening at Clapham Common tube station marks the start of greater expansion plans for Change Please who are now looking at other available sites on the Underground network.
This expansion was made possible through the funding received through the CAN Invest and UBS Early Intervention Fund.
"Thanks to the funding from CAN Invest, Change Please has been able to open its first Underground kiosk at Clapham Common and provide work for Marco Ocampo, our newest barista. Marco, along with several other previously homeless individuals are being trained to work at this and other forthcoming Underground openings. This is a huge step for us and will provide so many more jobs, helping change more lives!"
